My boyfriend had a seizure last night and refuses to get it checked out. I don't know all the details, I don't know what brought on the seizure, but I am really worried and he needs to go to the doctor.
He won't however, because he has no health insurance. How to convince someone to go to the doctor after having a seizure?
Some people just do have one seizure and never have one again. If it only happens one time, then it's not epilepsy. I'm not suggesting that you not worry, but maybe the situation is not as dire as you think right now.
If it happens another time with other people around, for sure they are going to call 911. He will go to the ER. They have to treat him free there, and I hope he will get a prescription for antieptileptic drugs.
When he does get health insurance, he should mention this immediately to his doctor. If he has seizures and he refuses to get them seen to, he can lose his driver's license.
If it happens again, and if you're with him, you want to do three things:
*Check your watch. What time did it start?
*Roll him on his side.
* Move away furniture and things that he could bruise or cut himself on.
And don't put anything in his mouth.
If it lasts longer than five minutes, call 911

I think that will help you
If he's had a seizure before, then he probably knows already that he's ok. I have seizures that I don't go to the doctor for because I don't have insurance. If he can't afford health insurance, he can apply for Medicaid (or whatever it's called in your state). If it's his first seizure, he should really be checked out just to make sure it's nothing serious. But legally you can't make him go.
